Harry Potter series announces its writer and director

Killing Eve’s Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner and The Last of Us’ Mark Mylod will be directing episodes of the new Harry Potter series.

HBO’s Harry Potter series (which was announced last year), has found its writer and director with Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials, Killing Eve) being announced as showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) as executive producer and director of multiple episodes.

HBO, in association with Warner Bros. Television has said the new series, currently in development, ‘will be available on Max’s expanding global footprint’.

The series is said to be ‘a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series’ by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years,” the company said. “Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

The obvious point is that we currently do not receive HBO as a streaming service in the UK, so we don’t know when we’ll be getting the TV show and on what service – usually HBO series like The Last Of Us and House Of The Dragon have been shown on Sky and Now TV, so watch this space!
